We’re back with another Mask Monday! And today we’re chatting about my thoughts on the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme Detoxifying Hydrator.
Whew, a mouthful.
Joining me in my relaxation station is my lovely assistant (aka the hubs) to give you our review. So let’s get started!
I don’t think the skincare industry has had a year as good as 2020. With all of the extra time spent at home, many people turned to skincare routines as a form of entertainment and self-care. 12- step beauty programs from your favorite Youtube Gurus and intense “maskne“ breakouts had a lot of skin newbies looking for the new best thing. But just like your crazy uncle Jim, many of you have a question:
And more specifically- cucumber masks.
Yes, but it’s important to set realistic expectations.
When it comes down to it, your skincare routine is all about the basics. Cleanse, Moisturize, SPF. (You can read more about my winter skincare routine here.) So there’s no need to sweat buying the latest and greatest masks from Sephora! Hydrating, cucumber masks won’t provide a permanent fix. However, if you’re looking to add a healthy glow before meeting with your boss for a big promotion or visiting your mother-in-law, it definitely wouldn’t hurt!
Face masks are great for targeted issues, but cucumber masks are best for those dealing with dry skin. (Hello winter skin, meet your new favorite product!) You can use it after cleansing or after exfoliating (I prefer the latter so it really gets in there) to provide extra hydration.
Cucumber: the extracts provide hydration and soothe the skin.
Papaya: Softens and smooths skin’s appearance.
Chamomile: calms active breakouts or irritated skin.
It’s a pretty straightforward application, works for all skin types, and provides that added layer of hydration that is so necessary right now.
I’m a fan of the ingredients, but you can tell they could’ve added higher percentages of things like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or niacinamide. You’ll need to apply a generous amount to get the results you want. And you’ll probably need to mask consistently (think every other day) to really feel a difference. At that point, I’d suggest a hydrating serum like THIS (one of my faves). Less time to apply and definitely less messy.
My previous review on this mask by Kiehl’s had pretty similar results.
One of these days I’ll have a GREAT hydrating mask to share, but today is not the day. Don’t let these reviews of masks get you down. The PTR Pumpkin Mask is actually one of my top 10!
Have you tried the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel mask? I’d love to know your thoughts!
