Picture this.

It’s 2017 and I’m frantically Googling with one hand while on the phone with a huge brand. They’re asking if I’m ok with the contract terms. I want to say yes!… But what in the HECK am I saying yes to?! Wouldn’t it be easier if there was some sort of influencer marketing glossary? WELL…

Over the period of my career as an influencer, I’ve been able to learn what to look out for in brand pitches. The timeline they’d like for me to share, the type of posts, and the rate are always easy to understand. But what about the other stuff? Today, I thought it would be helpful to breakdown a few words I make sure to “COMMAND+F” anytime a document shows up in my inbox. You can grab the FULL glossary here!

If you’re more of an audio person, I’m sharing 10 Influencer Terms you should know in my latest Youtube video!

What Does Perpetuity Mean?

meaning a brand can own or license the rights to your photos forever. Yikes! You definitely want to charge MAJOR $$$ for this! I talk about it in this video, but if the number doesn’t scare you then you’re not asking for enough.

What Is Influencer Whitelisting?

Allowing brands to have open access to your social media accounts for the purposes of paid advertisements. How does it benefit them? Well, instead of having to create their own content for paid ads, they’re able to use yours! But unlike organic content where it’s featured on a feed for 24-72 hours max, they can boost it with thousands of ad dollars to a much larger audience. Was this factored into your original rate? If not, consider adding more!

Payment Periods-

No- payment periods aren’t solely for influencers. Although I will say that the freelancer industry tends to have a bit more flexibility when it comes to paying creators on time. Hmm. Are you ok with being paid 3-4 months down the line vs. 30 days? Would you rather get paid 50% now and 50% at the end of the term? Negotiate it! Whether it’s Net-30 or Net-180, you deserve to have a say in when you get paid!
