For Memorial Day weekend, I finally was able to visit my sister and brother-in-law in Chicago! Quite a change from the last place they lived. The last time I went I was 6 years old and all I can remember was that it was really freaking’ cold and the famous lady lived there (like all black moms, mine was obsessed with Oprah in the early 2000’s). Thankfully, I was able to return to The Windy City during some warmer weather for a Beyonce concert!
With only a few short days, we had to cram as many tourist-filled activities in as possible. As much as I wanted to visit every historical landmark from the Bean to the spot where Barack and Michelle first kissed, there was only so much we could do in such a short period of time. If you’re going to Chi-Town soon, make sure you check out these tourist and local hot spots!
Visit this beautifully, landscaped park in the heart of the city. It has the crown fountain (which is an interesting piece of artwork that I’m still not sure if I like it or not), an ice rink in the winter, and the infamous Bean! It’s the perfect Instagram opportunity so make sure you have those bean puns ready.

At a time, it was the tallest building in the world but now holds the title of the 2nd tallest building in the United States. It’s no surprise then that the observation deck has spectacular views of the city. Pro Tip: Try finding a Groupon discount to save money on your ticket!
What’s a vacation without shopping? Magnificent Mile hosts a variety of shops in the upscale area of Downtown Chicago. Everything from Forever 21 to Zara to a truly magnificent, 7 story Macy’s. *Insert heart eyes emoji here ladies*
The boat tour is a great way to see the city while cruising down the Chicago river. You’ll pass by some of the most historic parts of the city while soaking in the sun. Best part? There’s no traffic.

This landmark was renamed to honor the naval veterans from WWI. It’s now home to the famous Navy Pier Ferris Wheel that allows you to have views of Lake Michigan, the beach, and the Chicago Skyline! It’s the perfect place to bring kiddos with the addition of the fun house maze and theater.
Chicago sports teams have some die-hard supporters and I couldn’t imagine living in a city with such a prominent fan base! (lol, Atlanta Sports. I hate to love you…) If you’re a baseball fan, you’ve got to visit the Cubs stadium, before it’s torn down. It’s one of the last remaining original ballparks in America! Baseball not for you? The Bulls and Bears have your NBA and NFL games covered.
The Chicago Theater has some of the best off-Broadway productions in the world. Hamilton will be touring here soon so I might have to go ahead and plan my next trip! Plus Chicago is undeniably one of the top 10 musicals of all time. That alone should give you the inspiration to catch a show while you’re there!
Are your bags packed? Chicago is waiting! Follow me on Snapchat or Instagram if you want to keep up with my summer travels! Did you see any places I left off or spots you’ve enjoyed in the past? Let me know in the comments below!
*FOOD TIPS*: Check out UNO’s for some obligatory Chicago deep dish pizza and Yolk for the best breakfast in the whole city.
