My Cloffice Mood Board: How We Designed It + Updates

How to create your own walk in closet

The time has finally come! We’re putting the final touches on my new “cloffice” or closet + office. It’s a mainstay in many lifestyle blogger’s homes and one of the main reasons we moved this summer during a global pandemic. Having a separate space to be focused and organized is already making all of the difference during my workday. I’ve put together a mood board to show what I’ve envisioned for our spare bedroom. A few items are a bit on the pricier side, but a girl can dream! I’ll take the inspiration and find a few dupe pieces down the road.

How We Designed My Cloffice

Designing your own cloffice space from scratch be a bit overwhelming. I did what any millennial person would do- turn to Youtube! I grabbed inspiration from accounts like HighLowLuxxe and Alyssa Lenore’s closets when mapping out my own. What are the absolute must-haves for your closet? Do you need lots of shoe storage? Are hanging racks an absolute priority? Since I have a full walk-in closet in my master bedroom, I knew my office would be more for video backdrops and display. We took measurements to see what could fit realistically and I settled on my cloffice focus: accessories. In the end, I decided on 3 wardrobes across the back wall of the room.

Closet Must-Haves: Ikea Pax Wardrobe

We used the Ikea Pax Wardrobe System and it’s incredibly easy to put together! They even have a website tool that helps you design exactly what you need. From there I chose the drawers, shelves, and the other small details. Even if you’re close to an Ikea, I’d opt for home delivery. The process of getting it up the stairs alone was like that “pivot” scene from ‘Friends’. There were a few items not available online that I had to pick up in-store while Will was at work and I think it was my best workout all month.

The price varies on how extensive you want to make your new closet, but it’s definitely the most affordable option out there. When I was searching for alternatives, I priced it in comparison to services like California Closets and even DIY bookshelves. In the end, the slightly lower cost isn’t enough to justify having to buy separate materials and extra labor. I’ll try and share an estimate once we’re finished with the entire project. Because the room is just big enough to get the wardrobe pieces in there unassembled, my husband graciously offered to put it together himself. Now that we’ve got them all standing up, I’m hoping to put the final touches by the end of the month!

Are you looking for tips to create your dream cloffice? What else would you like to know? I’d be happy to include it in my next update!
