And if you had told me that I would be doing this five years ago I would probably be pretty confused. I have always disliked hearing my voice played back. And I think that’s one of the reasons why I struggle with making video content. But if I want to continue to grow my platform and my business as a content creator, a few new risks can’t stop me.
I’ve learned that the thing that helps differentiate me from others in my industry is my voice. And no, I’m not saying the actual tone. I mean, it’s hardly Disney princess levels of audio. But if you’ve been here a while, then you know I’ve never been afraid to speak my mind. My opinions on the influencer industry, current events, and pop culture are always the pieces of content I’m most proud of. And they’re the ones that resonate the most with you guys, too!
I feel like I’ve been sharing pop culture recaps since I can remember on Instagram stories. However, in 2020 I started to make it more of a regular occurrence. Each week I would present witty 5-minute rundowns I affectionately called “Bach Chats” about Claire and Tayshia’s season. I also did an Instagram live session with my friend Gabby talking about the Love Island US finale. I was always shocked to get great feedback on something that seemed so second nature to me. And I realized how fun it could be to talk about something that I’m so excited about that’s not necessarily the most intellectual topic out there. So when I approached Nicole about creating weekly YouTube videos for the historic Bachelor season with Matt James, I already knew this could be something special.
It might come as a shock to some of you but I had never met Nicole before a few months ago! We separately met up in Charleston for our brand shoot and I remember thinking, “I’m about to launch a new venture with someone I’ve never seen in person.” LOL. But we’ve been friends on Instagram for so long it felt like the perfect fit. When we started creating the YouTube videos together, I kept waiting for an awkward moment between “strangers” but there never seemed to be an issue. After we were able to build up such a strong following on my YouTube account and consistently sharing our thoughts on every episode, creating a podcast just seemed like the logical next step. From there, Content Culture was born.
Content Culture is a weekly podcast that shares reality TV Recaps and the hottest news in pop culture and digital trends. It’s hosted by Me, Tomi Obebe, and my friend and fellow blogger, Nicole Green. If you’re looking to add diverse voices to your commute that feel like a group chat with your besties, you can subscribe on any of these listening platforms here. You can also listen to our intro episode here to get a better idea of what to look forward to!
This is the first time I’ve started something since I launched my blog in 2015 that I didn’t have any type of semblance on where to start. It’s a completely new experience for both of us! Podcast networks, hosting platforms, transcripts for episodes, audio editing software, and recording gear are just a few things that I’m still constantly learning about in this season. But every time I get a message from someone who says they don’t even watch The Bachelor franchise and they love listening to our commentary or the people who are sharing our accounts with excitement for what’s to come to make me so proud of what we’re doing.
As someone who always has business ventures and ideas in mind, I do have big dreams for the future of this podcast but it was not my initial intention to use it as a revenue stream. I’m excited to create content that is fun, entertaining, and informative without the additional pressures of income (for the time being haha). But Hellofresh if you’re reading this…Never Say Never.
Thank you all for the support on our launch! I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
