Valentine’s Day has always had a soft spot in my heart. Honestly, I don’t think it deserves all the hate it gets! What’s wrong with reminding the ones closest in our lives that we love them? Chocolate? Yup! Gifts? Yup! And the excuse to wear my favorite color? Thank u, blessed. My fiance Will and I rotate which years we choose to celebrate the love holiday. Since his birthday is in January, we try to find a balance on the gift giving since it’s so back to back (especially as we save for our wedding)! But we always make sure to carve out some quality time together. This year it might be Fyre Festival documentaries as we register for gifts on the couch but I’m not complaining!
However, I do have a favorite valentine’s day memory that has nothing to do with relationships. In college, I was a part of a campus ministry called the Wesley Foundation. It was an amazing organization that allowed me to grow deeper in my faith and make life long friends! Every February, we sold Valentines Day grams (think Mean Girls but roses instead of candy canes) to raise money for mission trips. We’d go around to different classrooms and embarrass one person after the next singing “You are My Sunshine” in front of a lecture hall of 200 people.
One year a confident sorority girl sent one to the most popular man on campus: Cam freaking Newton. Ya know, the Heisman winner? Casual. We surprised him in the middle of a sociology class and ended up going slightly “viral”. It was one of the funniest moments of my life and will always be in the top 5 of my Vday memories!
It confuses me why people have such negative feelings towards Valentines when you can do crazy things like that and bring so much joy to others. Even when you’re single, you can find ways to celebrate vday with your closest friends and family! Make appointments for a spa day, head to your favorite store for a shopping spree, or binge your favorite so-cheesy-you-love-to-hate-them movies for the ultimate treat yourself day. I mean, I’ll take advantage of a discount whenever I can. :) It doesn’t matter what you do, who you spend your day with, or how expensive the gift is. Spread that love and kindness like confetti. With so much negativity and hate in the world, I think it’s important now more than ever that we show that we care. A little more love and affection in the world can never be a bad thing!

I used to really hate Valentine’s Day because I never really had a special someone until I met my current boyfriend. Now we love to spoil each other and it’s a really relaxing day
Aw that’s so cute! It’s fun to spoil and be spoiled! :)
I love Valentine’s Day! I think it’s not just for “lovers,” but for loved ones in general. This satin dress is amazing!
Thanks so much Marissa!
