My Winter Skincare Favorites: Current Routine & Product Must-Haves

One of my biggest resolutions for 2020 was getting my skin lookin’ FLAWLESS. After sharing a few items and feedback on stories, I found a lot of you feel the same way! Because I’m in an industry that is so image-focused, beauty and wellness are top priorities. Of course, I mean that in the healthiest way possible. Even though it’s cliche, my skincare routine is really self-care. It’s a stress-free process that makes me feel relaxed and build confidence. Isn’t that what we all want? Throughout the year, I’ll make sure to update with new products I’m loving here on the blog and Instagram (@goodtomicha). Let’s jump into my current faves, shall we?!

Skincare disclaimer: I’m not an esthetician or a dermatologist. I’m just another girl who went down the youtube rabbit hole of skincare product videos. Now I  can’t stop talking about retinoids and the negative effects of Witch Hazel. Everyone’s skin reacts differently so please, take everything I say with a grain of salt! If you’d like to try any of the products below, test it on a patch of skin in the evening. If there isn’t a negative reaction in the morning, feel free to start slowly working it into your routine!

My Skin Type:

For the longest time, I assumed that I had oily skin. During my teenage years, this was definitely true, but when I got older it changed. The products I used stripped my face of natural oils and my skin was just trying to make up for it! Now, I’d describe it as acne-prone, normal-dry skin and the winter air isn’t exactly helping. One of my favorite “skinfluencers”, Fairy Glow Mother, suggested focusing on hydration and clearing my acne before moving onto anything else.

The Ingredients > Products

Finally understanding this was a huge moment of clarity for me. I can sometimes be a label snob and forget the fact that not every high-end skincare line has the best product for every issue. For those of you looking to add hydration, find serums and moisturizers with hyaluronic acid (aka sodium hyaluronate). It’s a substance that naturally occurs in your body but diminishes over time that retains water and collagen! For my acne-prone skin, I added salicylic acid-based products to break up the “congestion” on my nose and chin. To minimize the appearance of pores, look into Niacinamide!

My Winter Skincare Routine

Step 1: Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse

Melts away the makeup, dirt, and oil from the day. This stuff is seriously amazing! You can literally see the oil plugs and blackheads on your hands after massaging this into your skin for 60 seconds.

Step 2: Tula Keep-it Clear Acne Cleanser:

After seeing countless influencers share about Tula, I got curious to try it out. And they ain’t lyin! This cleanser cleared up breakouts and congestion in less than a week. I previously used the Cerave SA cleanser but felt the results were slower than I would’ve liked. However, it’s a great lower price option! Use code ‘GOODTOMICHA’ for 15% off!

Step 3: Paula’s Choice Replenishing Hydrating Toner:

Adds extra hydration, balances the pH of your skin, and helps create a more permeable membrane for the actives in your serums!

Step 4: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Step 5: The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum

Step 6: Paula’s Choice Omega + Complex Serum:

Contains omega fatty acids and replenishes the skin

Step 7: Fresh Beauty Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer and/or First Aid Ultra-Repair Moisturizer:

If you have normal to oily skin, there’s no need to layer moisturizers. However, I like using a lighter one coupled with a thicker consistency for extra strength. During the day time, I only use the Fresh Beauty one, but it depends on how my skin is that day.

Step 8: Supergoop SPF 50 (AM) or Cerave Healing Ointment (PM)

Sunscreen all 2020, friends! Most signs of aging are due to sun exposure so while it’s step 8, it’s the most important! I love this one from Supergoop because it doesn’t leave a white cast on your skin. At night, I use the Cerave ointment to seal in all of the moisture. It’s an “occlusive” which means it won’t clog your pores!

Step 10: Laniege Lip Mask (PM)

I only use this when needed, but it is SO good for dry lips! Put it on at night and wake up with baby soft pout.

Obviously, when I’m short for time there are a few steps I can take out here and there. The bare minimum for AM is cleanse, moisturize and SPF. At night my shortest routine is oil cleanse, cleanse, and moisturizer. I hope these were all helpful! Let me know if you need recommendations on other products, I’d love to help!
