We’re starting to feel some small hints of fall weather here in Alabama and it’s glorious! But of course in true southern fashion it heats back up to 90 degrees by midday. I’ve explained in a previous post how I believe everyone dresses better in the fall and I think it’s because of the unlimited choices you have! That being said, I’ve listed some of my favorite (of the many) trends I’m seeing in fall fashion now. It was hard narrowing it down to just six and everyday I’m inspired by new styles, so be sure to check back in a few weeks to see what new item I’m drooling over!
Boyfriend Jeans
These comfortable, casual staples will be your best friend this fall. If you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I’ve loved my pair. I feel like there are so many ways to dress it up or down. Plus, it comes as a much appreciated change in the denim game after skinny jeans dominated our lives for so long. My thighs thank you, boyfriend jeans.
Boyfriend Jeans: Gap
Structured Purse: Dailylook
Utility Jacket
If you’re looking for a new jacket to add to your outerwear, this is it. It’s light enough to not make you too toasty, but heavy enough to keep wearing all throughout the fall. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my own and I’ve only worn it twice!
Booties
Repeat after me. “You can never have too many boots.” Keep repeating it over and over so you won’t feel as judged whenever someone looks inside your closet. Riding boots are still trending but not for long. Boots are moving from the over-the-knee region to ankle boots. I’m a fan of all styles, but I feel like booties are a more practical purchase since you can wear them anywhere. Grab a pair of your favorite Harry-Styles shoes like these I got from Forever 21 for under $40!
Patterned Button Downs
Whether it’s flannel, plaid, or gingham, get ready to see a lot of these patterned tops this fall. No longer just a style for the lumbersexuals, flannels are a favorite fall item; especially here on campus. They’re just so comfortable! Now that people have caught on to the trend, it’s hard to find them at a reasonable price in stores. Hint*: Visit your local secondhand store, you’ll probably have multiple to choose from! Gingham comes up in a close second for button downs this season, but in my opinion can be considered as more of a transitional piece. Check out this fan favorite from J. Crew Factory!
Suede Mini Skirts
An answer to every southern woman’s prayers. A way to look effortlessly in season while not wearing to many layers. This retro style has been coming back in full force along with bell bottoms and overalls. Despite how you might feel about them now (or even back then) I think they’re here to stay for a while.
Blanket Scarves
The bigger, the better. The official new motto for any scarf-lover. Blanket scarves seem like heat stroke waiting to happen, but I also can’t shake the image in my head of me power walking to Beyoncé down the street with one of these bad boys wrapped around me. Currently obsessing over this scarf from Asos and I guarantee you I’ll have a very similar piece like this before the season is done.
I’ll miss being able to layout by the pool, but I think I’ll gladly trade that in for perfect weather, booties, and the ever-present smell of pumpkin! Have a fall fashion trend you’re dying to try? Let me know in the comments below!
