We FINALLY sent out save the dates! They should’ve gone out about a month ago. But with family living in all four corners of the world, getting a hold of addresses can be difficult. Are they necessary to send? It can depend on the size of your wedding. If it’s on the smaller side and most already have the date penciled in from your Facebook announcement, you can probably save a few bucks. If you’re planning on hosting a larger affair, absolutely. I loved the idea of sending one because it gives our guests a chance to meet us before the big day!
Last year, I partnered with Basic Invite to share their holiday cards. I’m excited to be working with them again! But where to start?! Did I want magnets or paper? Landscape or Portrait? Photo or Non-photo cards?! LOL jk on the last one. I will gladly find any excuse to do more photo shoots with Will. ;) I searched through their font designs but ultimately fell in love with one I found on Etsy and uploaded it straight to their website. From there I was able to add my own photo, crop, & adjust everything exactly how I wanted. They turned out beautifully and it was definitely worth all of the late night design texts to my sister! Here are some of my tips to make sure your save the dates process is seamless.
Whoops, my bad. But the important people know, so I’m not too stressed. Plan to mail them closer to 8 months if your wedding is close to a major holiday or destination wedding. People will need more time to plan flights, accommodation, and time off work!
Include the major points like the names of the bride and groom and location of the event. And definitely pick a font that’s legible. Basic Invite gave me the free option to add more text on the back so I made sure to link our wedding website for more information! I also loved how they even address your envelopes for you. Less work for me!
Will was a perfect IG fiance and had our engagement photographed and we also had a small shoot a couple weeks prior at an apple orchard. Because of that, I wanted to have a few photos of us looking a bit more snazzy that matched our personality. If you met at a football game, grab some jerseys for your photos! If you enjoy spending time outside with your significant other, find a tranquil spot on a nature trail. And make sure to check if all of their clothes are clean because 90% of the time… they’re not. :)
Wedding finances add up very quickly. It might seem courteous to extend an invite to old friends, but if there’s even a small chance they’ll actually show up then that’s one more plate to pay for.
Proper etiquette is to write out their address fully (Ex: Avenue instead of Ave, Georgia instead of GA). Almost hit submit on our designs, but thankfully got the random idea to google the rules beforehand! Even though Basic Invite has a pretty simple way to collect addresses from friends and family, I had to go in and make a few changes to those who abbreviated. Still a lot easier than uploading them all manually!
I hope this helps everyone in the wedding planning process. Thanks for letting me gush on and on about mine, it’s just so exciting! Have you used Basic Invite before? Let me know!
