I’ve always loved to exercise, but just had problems staying motivated! Like the average college girl, I would have a list of health-inspired resolutions every January only to see them fail at my first sighting of King’s Hawaiian Rolls. For a while I was convinced that my perfect “spring break abs” could be achieved a week before a beach trip and become frustrated when the results weren’t anywhere close to my envisioned Beyonce-bod. I would make one excuse after the other about holidays, birthdays, lack of time or stress to only start the entire cycle over on New Year’s Day. With the help of my friend Libby and our new challenge, #momoneymomuscles, that’s no longer an issue! So welcome to a 3-part series I’ve titled, “For The Health Of It”. I’ll be focusing on my favorite products and apparel, workouts, and the importance of staying fit! As an exercise science major (and former nutrition science major) I can’t wait to share my thoughts on how to successfully live a healthy lifestyle!
Part 1: Dress the Part
Who knew the phrase “Fake it ’til you make it” was so true! Have you ever noticed the people who go hardest in the gym look like they’ve been offered a lifetime supply of Nike? When you have nice workout clothes you don’t only look great, you feel great! Now, I’m not saying go spend a bunch of money just to impress others and look good. But being comfortable and confident while working out can make a huge difference. I’ve recently purchased a few products that have definitely improved not only my confidence, but my exercise routines and I wanted to share!
First, Bluetooth headphones. The ones I have pictured above are only $22 and are a great alternative to Beats headphones or Bose. They also have great battery life. I purchased mine in the middle of June and haven’t charged them since the very first day I received them! Another must-have is my iPhone armband. It’s perfectly non-restrictive and hands-free, keeps your music with you for any workout and even holds your keys! I originally bought it when I thought I was going to get up and run before classes. However after an unfortunate wasp-attack and temperatures I can only compare to the armpit of Satan, I figured indoor workouts were more for me. Plus, I get to work out in this bad boy so I can’t really complain. Lastly ladies, do not underestimate the importance of the well-fitted sports bra. No matter your cup size, sports bras can save you from back and shoulder pain and prevent your breasts from sagging too early! I love the champions sportswear and have recently gotten two more from Target because they’re ideal for high-intensity workouts. When it comes to splurge vs. conserve in terms of clothes, I’m usually one to try to find the cheaper alternative. But when you’re finding comfortable shoes, definitely splurge. They’ll last a lot longer and your ankles will thank you. I suggest going to a store like Big Dog Running Company (Auburn area) that will let you test shoes on a treadmill to see if they fit you! So, what are you waiting for? Get up. Dress up. And let’s get healthy!
