Southern Shirt is primarily an online retailer that sells more than just your typical tee. The top I’m wearing above is literally the comfiest shirt I’ve ever owned. It’s usually depicted as a college-aged brand, but I’ve loved how they’ve ventured out to share more casual outfits and beachwear! I’m also a fan of these lightweight shorts and this tank that would make the perfect pool coverup. At Auburn, I mostly saw sorority girls rocking their southern shirt merch all around campus. I wish I had realized they had so many cute options earlier!
I’m officially in the Bay Area! Home to Steph Curry, dozens of tech companies, and extreme gentrification, but I love it so far. This will be the farthest I’ve ever lived away from my family for a long period of time. Yes, I lived in New York City for 6 months. But with cheaper plane tickets and a shorter distance, I never felt like I was too far away. I also studied abroad in Madrid for 5 weeks, but by the time I started feeling homesick I was already packing up to leave.
Obviously, I love to travel! Experiencing new cities or cultures is always exciting, but there’s nothing like the south. Of course, I admit we have our problems… but only southern people can call them out. It’s like how I can make fun of my sister all I want but the minute someone else does it they’re in BIG trouble. Despite the multiple issues, the south will always have my heart. I’m partnering with Southern Shirt to share 8 things I’m going to truly miss this summer about the south!
Honestly, the most hurtful realization. The closest Chick-Fil-A is 40 minutes from me which I’m pretty sure is the ultimate sin.
Is it going to be 100 degrees today after only reaching 65 yesterday? Will it randomly rain out of nowhere? What about a blizzard and a tornado all in one week? All of these are situations I’ve found myself in living in the south. I’ll miss the giant guessing game I play every time I leave the house. In San Francisco, the weather is a constant 60 degrees and will most likely not be warmer than 75 while I’m here this summer. *slowly moves my rompers to the back of my closet*
There’s nothing like it, Y’all! I will say people in the south portray those in NYC or SF to be cold and emotionless, but that’s far from the truth. However, southerners go above and beyond when it comes to helping out their neighbors.
The average 1 Bedroom in San Francisco is $3500 and it’s been reported that you need $110K to “live comfortably” in the city. San Fran is extreme when it comes to the rising housing costs across the country, but it’s a constant reminder of why you see people flocking to cities in the south.
It’s not even college football season yet, but sometimes the trash talk leading up to the first game is the best part! I guess they have schools like USC and Stanford, but they’ll never compare to rivalries like the Iron Bowl. #SEC, it just means more, amirite?
Greasy bacon. Buttermilk Biscuits. Fried chicken and waffles or better yet, fried chicken and french toast?! I’m officially on the hunt for the best brunch places in SF to console me until I’m back in South Carolina.
All of my bosses in New York were under the age of 35, but I still felt compelled to call them Ma’am or Sir! It took me months to finally break the habit after you could see how uncomfortable it made them. But I always miss the respect it brings! Good manners will take you far in life.
Rooftop bars with drinks under $5? Sign me up. When I lived in Auburn, you could get 32 oz well drinks for $2! 2. DOLLARS!!! Just one of the many ways a college town did not prepare me for the real world. Now, I can go to a bar and have one drink (+ tip, of course) and be close to $20. It’s safe to say I’ll be enjoying a nice glass of Sprite all summer long.
Appreciate the sweet, southern air next time you step outside friends. The infamous southern architecture and historic homes are just as gorgeous as they are problematic. However, I miss them when I stroll around my new metropolitan cities. What’s your favorite thing about the south??
Thanks for reading, Y’all ;)

I can totally relate to these things when I took my first full-time job in Vermont last year! Just be happy you have CFA in an hour radius… there are NO Chick Fil A’s in the state of Vermont- the nearest ones are 4 hours away! :(
Enjoy your summer adventures!!!

that is CRAZY! I’m so glad you’re back in the land of Chick Fil As haha
Oh my gosh, all of these are reasons why I cannot bring myself to leave the South! My favorite thing about the South is just how welcoming it is; everyone is SO polite and nice (another reason to love Chick-Fil-A, amen?)
Best of luck in San Fran!
