Our back deck is definitely a dream come true. At the beginning of the pandemic, I could already tell I would struggle. I was balancing my new job as a full-time content creator with limited human interaction. Our apartment was perfect for the 7 months of marriage, but once I realized I wouldn’t be leaving to go to an office every day, slowly felt cramped. We began the hunt almost immediately for a new space to rent in Charlotte. And with more time spent at home, outdoor space was a MUST! After a few months scrolling on Zillow, we found the perfect townhouse as our new home.

We bought a firepit for the fall/winter and have essentially decided it will need to stay in the garage until October. I thought we’d be able to squeeze that AND the grill onto our deck but it’s just not feasible. I also wrestled with the idea of a coffee table in between since it gets kind of tight. Ultimately, I decided it made sense from a utility perspective.
This is was really took our deck from cute to backyard paradise! It automatically makes the space more relaxing and tropical. If you’re like me and jump a few feet in the air anytime you hear a bumblebee, you can keep the options to non-flowering plants.
We had a small patio rug at our apartment that I LOVED. However, I never realized that we had a natural awning from the curve of the building to protect it from the weather. When we moved the same rug that lasted the 6 months in our apartment got pretty green within a matter of 2 weeks. If there’s a way to cover it when it rains or works specifically for all weather types, then go for it! If not, it’s probably best to skip this decor item.
