What to Pack for Maine in the Summer

HELLO BABES! Long time, no chat. I just got back from a week-long trip to Maine with my mom and sister. We had the BEST time exploring somewhere new! When I tried to determine what to pack, I scrolled through Pinterest for a little bit of inspiration. I could’ve chosen the traditional “old money”  or coastal grandmother look with lots of neutrals and neck-tied cardigans but found these outfits worked best for me. In Maine, you’ll be surrounded by plenty of blue and white scenery, so pack accordingly! But what else should you bring for a trip to the east coast when it’s not your typical beach vacation?  Here are the must-have items you’ll want to have for a summer in coastal Maine.

Swimwear

This one Is a given. One of the biggest draws to spending your summer in New England is the gorgeous weather. As a southerner, I can’t tell you how nice it was to lounge by the water without overheating. We spent the majority of our time outdoors- basking in the sun by the pool and cliff’s edge.

Sun Protection

Just because the heat is less offensive in Maine, doesn’t mean you can forget about protecting your skin! Make sure to pack a hat for your walks around small town gems like Ogunquit or Cape Neddick. Lather up head to toe with white-cast-free sunscreen options to avoid sun damage.

Layers

One thing to note is the dip in temperatures during the night. There were also a few days where I felt like I was in Florida instead of Maine due to the random pop-up showers. They would never last for a long time but it did make me wish I had a rain jacket just in case!

Comfortable, Versatile Shoes

Whew! Boy did we get our steps in during this trip. We didn’t even get a chance to make it to Acadia National Park- another big attraction not too far from us! I was very thankful I packed a nice pair of tennis shoes that could go with everything. Between the cobblestone streets in Portland and strolls along the beach, the flatform sandals came in handy too.

Books

As a huge book-lover, I’m always going to suggest a few reads for your trip! What’s better than finally finishing that book you’ve been wanting to read while you’re on vacation? A few novels to get you in the mood for a coastal Maine getaway include Beach Read and 28 Summers (really anything by Hildebrand).

Happy travels!
