We visited Ottawa, Ontario in December and I’m JUST getting around to sharing this post. Whoops! I know what you’re thinking. Who goes to Canada in the winter?! Greattt question. As a true southerner, I definitely had the same reservations. However, after nailing down a solid packing list for cold weather, I was ready! I have close relatives that moved to a town just north of the city. While the kids were at school, Will and I took some time to explore Ottawa!
From Charlotte, we traveled to New York and then caught a plane to Ottawa. Although it’s the capital, it’s kind of funny how they don’t have a lot of direct flight options from the US! Toronto is only a 4.5 hr drive to Ottawa, so it’s definitely possible to fit it in. But the cities give off two very different vibes: traditional vs. modern. I’d suggest splitting your Canadian getaway into 2 trips if you’re considering touring both. If you like winter wonderlands, you’ll definitely be able to appreciate everything the city has to offer.
