What I’m Packing for My Trip to Ontario, Canada This Winter

Packing list for your next trip to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada this winter || I visited in December and even though it's not the coldest month, I'm confident these items would've been perfect for the entire winter season

What to Pack for Ottawa:

This will be my second time to Ottawa and I’m so excited to be back! The last time I went was in October a few years ago and it was just starting to snow. I feel like this will be my true winter experience. My uncle lives there so I know this won’t be the last time either. I’m hoping I’ll be able to add Banff, Toronto, Quebec, Lake Louise, Montreal, and Vancouver to my Canada bucket list one day. During our trip, we’ll be mostly shuttling from place to place, but we’ll be exploring a national park over the weekend. I was initially nervous about the extended time outside, but I just made sure to pack well for the cold-weather and I’m ready! Here’s what I’m bringing for my trip to Canada:

You’ll want to pack waterproof everything:

Seriously. If you think 20 degrees is cold, try adding freezing rain and snow to the mix. At the bare minimum, your wardrobe should be water-resistant! That way you can enjoy the snow even longer. :)

Boots:

I’ve been raving about these white snow boots since I’ve got them in! They fit true to size (TTS), come in multiple colors, and leave plenty of room for thicker socks. I love that they’re a) waterproof and b) easy to put on/take off. Did I mention how the inside is lined with faux shearling? Swoon.

Thermals/Underwear:

This is high-key the most important element to any cold-weather adventure. Your clothing is only as warm as the thermals underneath! I’m packing this waffle thermal set from Jockey after trying them out a couple of weeks ago. This $16 bodysuit turtleneck from Amazon is another one of my faves. I first discovered it on my trip to NYC in October. They’re lined with fleece and feel super warm! And while I packed my Spanx leggings for comfort, I’ll just throw a pair or two of these thermals underneath for my outfits.

Sweaters:

The thicker the better! I like to size up to make sure I can fit plenty of layers underneath.

Socks:

I’m sad because these socks didn’t come in on time (probably with my apartment and shipping.) But I used them on my last trip to Canada! Thermal socks made exclusively for extreme cold and only $16 for two pairs.

Winter Accessories: Gloves, Beanies, Scarves

Finding a great pair of gloves is hard work! I scoured the internet for a pair of gloves that are waterproof, touch-screen capable, and don’t look like they belong to Kawhi Leonard. After a couple of hours, I got lucky. These gloves came highly rated from multiple sites, so I can’t wait to put them to the test! They initially feel great and I have no issues using my phone!

Hot Hands:

If your clothing items seem to fail you, these hot hands packets never will. They’re great to throw in your bag if you have a long day touring and need a warm pick me up! I used to use these during tennis tournaments all the time to keep the feeling in my hands lol. 10/10 would highly recommend.

Packing Tips:

Wear your heaviest jacket and boots at the airport. It sucks to drag it around everywhere, but it will save you room in your luggage and keep you warm when you land!
